Octo Champ is the work of Nathan David Smith, an artist, director and music producer focused on sample-based electronic music with a range of influences, from jazz and dub to house and soul. Originating in the small town of Dumfries, Scotland, Nathan recently relocated to Glasgow after an 8-year stint in south-east London’s thriving dance music scene, cutting his teeth behind the decks and on the dancefloors of clubs such as Canavans, Corsica and the Bussey Building.
In addition, Nathan is one-half of DJ/promoter duo Rigid Disco, running parties and radio shows across both London and Glasgow and booking rising stars such as Tom Blip, FYI Chris, Hector Plimmer and the Rye Wax crew.
Octo Champ has remixed Soundway’s Flamingods and CHPLN as well as contributing to the CDR x Dimensions Sounds 2016 project. Most recently, his music was picked up on by Let’s Go Swimming who released ‘Not quite there yet’. This four track EP was given major exposure by Thump and featured ‘Rent’, which was premiered by DJ Mag. His next EP ‘Southern Uplands’ is less house, more oddball disco and is forthcoming on south London-based Shapes of Rhythm.
